The Water & The Blood

By Sis. Rose Michieka

“Water is life.” We hear this expression many times.Water is essential for life. All living things require water for growth and survival. Water is needed in our homes for hygiene and domestic tasks. So water is crucial because water connects public health, food security, energy for all and environmental well-being.

At individual level, when building our homes, we invest in water by installing big tanks to ensure abundant water supply and clean water.

In the Bible, we have many stories connected with water. Sarah’s mistress, Hagar, will testify that water saved her son’s life in the wilderness. The children of Israel will tell you how God caused water to gush out of a rock during the Exodus.Talk to Noah of old. He will tell you how the flood submerged the entire earth save for Mount Ararat. The Red Sea waters swallowed the entire Egyptian army.

John the Revelator talks about the therapeutic use of water in Laodecia.Yes, water has very good uses in our lives but can be destructive as well. Talk of the terrible catastrophes in the world as a result of Tsunamis, El-Ninos, hurricanes and tornadoes. Yes, water can give life to vegetation, quench our thirst, and clean up the environment. It can cleanse and even heal our bodies BUT, there is ONE thing that water CANNOT DO.

The flood in Noah’s story destroyed life from the face of the earth, BUT, it could not destroy sin. The River Jordan cleansed Naaman’s leprosy BUT it could not cleanse him from sin.The water at the pool of Siloam washed the mud (dirt) from a blind man’s eyes and healed his blindness BUT, it could not remove the stain of sin.The water at the pool of Bethsaida, when stirred by an angel healed people from diseases and infirmities, BUT cold not heal a sin-sick soul.

What, then, can wash away my sin?. What can make me whole again?.

What can cleanse me deep within?. NOTHING BUT THE BLOOD OF JESUS.

When the Roman soldier pierced Jesus’ side, BLOOD and WATER gushed out and that was for our healing. We have been bought with a price – not gold or silver BUT by the precious BLOOD of Jesus. He who did not spare His only begotten Son, loves and cares about you and me.

The story of the Samaritan woman at Jacob’s well, gives us a new perspective of water security. The man at the well, Jesus of Nazareth, spoke about extraordinary water. Jesus said, ” whoever drinks the water that I give him will never thirst. Indeed the water I give them will become in them a spring of water welling up to eternal life.“( John 4:14. NIV).

The physical water from Jacob’s well temporarily quenches thirst. The spiritual water Jesus gives, whoever drinks it, will NEVER thirst again. This is a call to invest in the things that are eternal. Invest in the living water, a wonderful and bountiful supply.

So, are you thirsty? Get down to Jacob’s Well. The Man of Galilee, Jesus, is waiting for you. Drink freely from the fountain of life.

LIFE FOR LIFE.

The Man of Galilee gave His own life, was nailed on a cross, shed His own blood for you and me. He died so I might live. Life for life. Oh what manner of love this is??

Jesus said, ” For what profit is it to a man if he gains the whole world and loses his own soul?. Or what will a man give in exchange for his soul?”(Mark 8:36)

The response to this question is to invest in this precious blood. The price required of us is ( zero) payment. All that is required is to accept that Jesus died for us, accept the sacrifice and He will cleanse us from all unrighteousness.

At baptism, water is only a symbol of a new creation. The fountain of blood gives eternal life.In Matthew 6:19-21, the Lord admonishes us thus:

” Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy and where thieves break in and steal. But store up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where moth and rust do not destroy, and where thieves do not break in and steal. For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.”

The plea here, today, is to invest in the Living Water and in the blood of the Lamb. With this kind of investment, we are set free from the bondage of sin and we have the promise of everlasting life.

” INVEST TODAY, TOMORROW MAY BE TOO LATE.”
